I rode the miramar bus In the summer to go swimming..Great memories.
I rode the miramar bus in the summer to swim at least twice a week..Great memories.
Loved the Miramar Club. When you got home your feet were sore from the bottom of the pool. There were no beach chairs, just planks to lay on. What a summer these were. The diving boards were platforms, 3 or 4 different heights. Wish they never closed it.
We used to swim at Mriamar pool in the 1950s, when we lived in Indianapolis. The pool seemed large as a lake to me when I was a kid. There was a dive tank, a large baby pool, and a beginner pool around 2-3′ deep, where we took swim lessons. There was a wonderful snack bar/restaurant overlooking the pools, with a sundeck in front. We could buy Hostess cupcakes in the snack bar for 13 cents for a package of two (Hostess cakes were bigger, freshet, and had more filling in those days). Music played over the loud speakers. To this day, when I hear Brenda Lee’s “I’m Sorry” it takes me right back to the Miramar pool!
A charter member from the day it opened till it closed. I even worked there in high school. Had many great times there!
any history on when it was built? Did it start as a public pool, or was it always a club?
Was it closer to Post or Mitthoefer. We were members but the are has changed so much.
Yup! My aunt was a member and used to take me there to go swimming all the time. I have several very vivid memories of those odd things you seem to remember from when you are a kid. I remember that to get to the pool from the ladies “locker” room, you had to walk through a shallow footbath of some yucky liquid that was supposed to kill athletes foot. I remember when they played “Rock Around The Clock” over the speakers at the snack bar. I remember that the pool seemed massive to me and that the diving area was extremely deep. There’s a bunch more, but that’s enough. Anyone know what happened to it (especially that pool!) and what’s there now?
Our Family joined the Club after my Parents best friends were members there. Most of the pool was 3 ft. deep, but the diving area was 14 ft. It was a test of your bravery to try and sink to the bottom of that 14 ft. It made your ears ache badly. Always envious of those who wore a colored tagged necklace with a red tag. I think it was from 1955.
Drove by this place a few times myself. Was always going to check it out but never did.
NEVER WENT INSIDE. WASN’T A MEMBER BUT DROVE PAST IT A THOUSAND TIMES. USED TO LIVE NOT TO FAR FROM IT ON 10th STREET JUST OFF POST ROAD ACROSS FROM THE OLD WARREN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL ON THE CORNER OF POST RD. AND 10th.
