When I was a young teen I found one of Ed Martin’s dragsters in Richard Johnson’s scrapyard over by Greenfield. (The car pictured below) It was a 1962 Ford. I had a white 62 Ford convertible and for fifty dollars he let me take all the parts I wanted off the car. I got the headers, six pack manifold with carburetors, solid lifters, push rods and the cam. I got all the parts put in my car in a weekend. Pulled it out on the street and the very fist thing I popped the clutch and blew first gear out. Drove the thing the rest of the week taking off in second gear. Bought a new transmission the next Payday and spent another weekend putting it in the car.
